Ingredients

  • A quarter of cauliflower
  • 2 carrots
  • 1/2 tbsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1 tsp. methi (fenugreek) leaves, green cardamom seeds maximum 5
  • 1 tbsp tamarind sauce
  • 2 tbsp desiccated coconut
  • cup of cooked toor dhal
  • fresh coriander half a bunch, chopped
  • 1 tbsp of sambar masala or something like Indian Kitchen King spice when no sambar available
  • 2 tbsp of coconut oil, one for frying spices and one for cooking dhal

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Blanch vegetables in hot water or steam them briefly, cook dhal with oil and turmeric till soft.

Step 2

Mix 1 tbs of sambar with 2 tbsp of desiccated coconut and 1 tsp of tamarind sauce.

Step 3

Fry oil with mustard seeds, methi leaves (preferably fresh), green cardamom.

Step 4

Mix all and add water. Serve with fresh coriander. I like it served with the fish sauce.
